The end of the month is here, and that means it's time to do a little housekeeping on our list of the absolute best iPhone apps. Who will be inducted? Who will unceremoniously get the boot? More »

Watch an RC Tricopter Blow Up Hydrogen-Filled Balloons with Fireworks [Video]

Yeah, that pretty much sounds like crazy geek YouTube video MadLibs, but in this case it's actually what you get. Fireworks might not be the most accurate missiles, but they're definitely the most fun ones. Especially with helium-filled targets involved. More »

Berzerk Ball is a nerd-flinging Time Waster

berzerkball
What you see in the screenshot above is a geek hurtling through the edge of space, so fast and so high that it looks as though he's re-entering the atmosphere on his way back to earth. That shot, by the way, ended up being around the 30,000' mark.

And yes, that's what you do on Berzerk Ball. The protagonist is a very pretty lady with a very large bat, and her job is to fling geeks as high and far into space as humanly possible.

And when I say "geeks" I mean "a geek", really, because it appears to be the same one over and over again - once he lands, he just starts walking back, muttering inane comments culled from actual blogs along the way.

Basic controls are elementary: You just click the mouse twice - once for controlling the angle, and again for controlling the power of the shot. Once the geek is airborne, you can exert a bit of influence over his trajectory using the left and right arrow keys. That may come in handy, because there are power-ups you can collect along the way, and robots you can land on (who then toss you ever farther on your merry way).

As you get better you can level up and buy different bats and power-ups to fling your geek ever farther. I'm not sure how long this game can stay interesting, but it might keep you amused during a phone call with a particularly irritating nerd.

Exposed: Apple?s Terrible Sin in China (TCTV)

Last I night I had the good fortune to see Mike Daisey's highly acclaimed show The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. It?s both an entertaining and acutely moving performance that anyone who owns an Apple product has a moral duty to see. Daisey is not only a brilliant monologist in the tradition of Michael Moore and Spalding Gray, but he?s also a crusading journalist who has exposed the inhumane working conditions of the workers at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, China. Daisey went to Shenzhen and stood outside the monstrous Foxconn factory and interviewed its workers ? some as young as 12 years old ? about the inhumane working conditions there. This is what he found? Video ahead.

Pantech's UML290 LTE modem for Verizon gets official Mac support

Though it was predated by a usable hack, the Pantech UML290 USB modem -- one of just two devices launched so far for Verizon's LTE network -- has finally been blessed with an official Mac OS driver. What does this mean? Well, technically, it means that this is the very first time Mac users are getting any LTE love in the US whatsoever -- though with that Samsung-sourced mobile hotspot on the horizon, USB modems might be a tough sale at this point. On a bright note, the availability of the driver today means that Verizon beat its own estimate of February; the UML290's counterpart from LG, the VL600, is still Windows-only, though we imagine that'll be hitting soon as well.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
